About Us

About Caskata

I guess it's a love of good food and friends that inspires us. There's no place we'd rather be than gathered around the table for hours on end, sharing good food and drink and stories. Making it all look as beautiful as it tastes is a real part of the experience.

Both our tableware and our giftware designs represent carefully edited compositions and each captures a moment’s story. Within these stories you’ll find motion, depth, and a gardener’s sense of color. Urban sensibility informed by time spent in the world's most cosmopolitan cities or natural imagery inspired by the picturesque New England landscapes that surround our studios, Caskata designs range from sophisticated to enchanting to playful. Always boldly graphic, we fuse contemporary and vintage to achieve a timeless elegance for any occasion.

In the end, beauty gives our lives a tangible quality that helps us savor the moments we're in. We design beautiful products with the hope that you'll love them enough to use them every day, and then, as those days turn into years, they'll still be the things you reach for first.

Who We Are

Shawn Laughlin, Founder & Designer
Shawn Laughlin brings a filmmaker’s eye to the design of beautiful objects. After graduating at 19 from NYU’s prestigious Tisch School of the Arts, the native New Yorker began her creative career at Grey Advertising as a commercial TV producer. There she honed a deep appreciation for visual design: color, texture, and composition - applying it to every facet of her life. Moving to Boston to raise her family, Laughlin’s focus shifted to her love of food, and with that, a love of time spent at the table. Creating memorable experiences for her family and friends became a driving force that spurred her to develop products that helped tell the stories that make life’s moments resonate with both style and meaning.

Laurie Bartlett, Director of Operations
Laurie began her career as an Information Systems Analyst in the corporate world working in such Fortune 500 companies as Texas Instruments, Polaroid, and TJX in large mainframe environments. As an IS Project Leader at TJX and Account Manager for IBA Software Technologies, Bartlett worked closely with management in the T.J. Maxx, HomeGoods, and Winners divisions of TJX to produce functional requirements, project plan documents, and cost and time estimates for a variety of in-house merchandising and finance systems projects. When she's not putting her considerable skills to work at Caskata, Laurie can be found at home in Sherborn, MA, with her husband and two sons or playing tennis as a member of DBHITL, a Boston-area women's indoor tennis league.

Francine Shannon, Director of Marketing
Francine brings a wealth of experience in strategic brand development, advertising communications, and web design to her role as Director of Marketing for Caskata. She began her career on Madison Avenue at Young & Rubicam before moving to Boston and joining Emerson Lane Fortuna (now Arnold Advertising). Over the years, Shannon has created strategically effective, award-winning marketing programs for clients as diverse as Dannon Yogurt, Bristol-Myers, Filene's, Boston Interiors, The Boston Ballet, Labatt's Beer and many others. Just prior to joining Caskata, Francine was at the helm of Fresh Cut Grass, her own full-service ad agency, developing "Brands that Breathe" for small to mid-sized companies in New England. The many hats Shannon wore at the helm of FCG prepared her well to contribute to the multi-dimensional needs of a fast-paced and rapidly growing creative enterprise.
