Tea with a Kick!

Sitting on the porch and sipping ice tea is taken to a new level in this summer cocktail. Cleverly called the B & Tea perhaps to hide that there is more than meets the eye in this porch rocker with a jigger of bourbon mixed in. We did not invent this one, but give thanks to Bobby Flay  who did. While this cocktail feels indulgent it is still light with hints of citrus and mint which makes it feel refreshing enough to make a pitcher.

Bobby Flay's B & Tea

Ingredients

Mint Simple Syrup:

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup fresh mint leaves

Cocktail:

  • 1 1/2 ounces bourbon, (Jim Beam Black)
  • 1 1/2 ounces good-quality black tea, strong brewed & chilled
  • 1/2 oz fresh lemon juice
  • 1/2 oz fresh lime juice
  • Orange slice
  • Ice cubes
  • Fresh mint sprig for garnish

Preparation

  • For the mint syrup: Combine the sugar and 1/2 cup water in a small saucepan and bring to a boil. Cook until the sugar has dissolved. Stir in the mint and let steep 30 minutes. Once cooled, strain the mint leaves.
  • For the cocktail: Combine the bourbon, tea, lemon juice, lime juice and 2 ounces mint syrup in a cocktail shaker and shake for 5 seconds. Rub the orange slice around the rim of highball glass and fill with ice. Pour the cocktail over the ice and garnish with the mint sprig. Sit back and enjoy!
